SWOT Analysis

· improved speed, stability, and security
· Clean, simple and efficient user interface.
· Chrome is equipped to deal with applications, not just web pages (as the first web browsers were built to handle items from before, not the ones that exist now.)
· When typing in the address bar, it gives suggestions for both search and web pages.
· Access your favorite pages instantly with lightning speed from any new tab.
· Saves you time: every time you open a new tab, you'll see a visual sampling of your most visited sites, most used search engines, and recently bookmarked pages and closed tabs.
· Use web apps without opening your browser. Application shortcuts can directly load your favorite online apps.
· Every tab you're using is run independently in the browser, so if one app crashes it won't take anything else down.
· Google Chrome warns you if you're about to visit a suspected phishing, malware or otherwise unsafe website
· Instant bookmark feature: click the star icon at the left edge of the address bar and you're done.
· Google built “V8,” which is a more powerful JavaScript engine “to power the next generation of web applications.”

The minimalistic design allows more of each webpage to be displayed. Great for laptops, netbooks, and desktops with smaller screens.

Visual Browser History

Reopen website tabs that you closed by mistake.

See memory used by different browsers.

· Need to install onto your computer
· Uses a bit more memory
· People may remain loyal to old web browser such as Internet Explorer and Firefox
· Google Chrome was only launched 9 months ago and most users use the beta version.
*No RSS Reader (BE 10/25/09)

· Programmers and designers using Google Chrome will have “better web experience and less server loads.”
· Impatient students will be satisfied with the huge speed difference.
· Students writing important emails or editing documents will not have to worry about the browser “crashing.”
· It’s a good tool to give a presentation or watch a large video.

· Students can use the special feature to open an incognito window when they don't want to save their browsing history.
- Gives Google another opportunity to harness user information. Although it is nice to have alternatives to the main programs like explorer and firefox
  • Privacy threat - Chrome can send back the keystrokes you type into its Address Bar, even if you don't hit Enter. It stores about 2% of your information including your IP address.

Ideas for the classroom:
· Web design classes can use this browser.
· Teachers can use this browser, and benefit from its efficiency.
· Students can build a class/personal website, and make it look great in Google Chrome.
